VIKINGS Club became the new champions of the Oxford & District Premier League after winning 4-2 at home to Section 1 title-bound Berinsfield Club.
Pete Ewins (7,780, break 6,290) and Alan Oliver, who replied with a break of more than 4,500 after being set 4,000 by John Boal, put the hosts 2-0 ahead.
When Allan Lacey (7,100) triumphed, Vikings were on the brink.
Although Berinsfield’s Craig Mace (8,440, break 7,990) pulled a game back, also collecting most wins in Section 1, the pairs were shared as Vikings claimed glory.
Only a major upset will stop Berinsfield from taking the title tonight at Masons B, while Masons A are now favourites for the runners-up spot after winning 4-2 at home to West Oxford Democrats Club.
Alan Lowe and Sean Stratford won the first two games before Eddie Tebby and Richard Garrett levelled at 2-2.
Masons went on to take both pairs for a 4-2 win.
With Marlborough Club taking the Section 2 crown, Masons B should finish second despite losing 5-1 away at Oracle.
