AN eagle three was the highlight as Eddie Pepperell shot a two-under-par round of 70 in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.
The eagle came at the 587-yard 18th hole – his tenth – during a steady first round that brought the Frilford Heath player 15 pars.
His one birdie came at his penultimate hole.
Pepperell is placed 29th in a star-studded field in which Henrik Stenson shot 65, Rory McIlroy 66, alongside South African Branden Grace.
World No 1 Jordan Spieth recorded a four-under 68.
However, leading the way is American amateur Bryson Dechambeau, whose 64 included an eagle and seven birdies.
