Fouryoung windsurfers from Oxford Sailing Club will be competing at the world championships this month.
Members of the successful Oxford Zoomers team – teenagers Julian Tait (Wantage), Ethan Moody (Abingdon), Isabel Lawrence (Church Hanborough) and Patrick Boyce (Appleford) – trained through last winter Royal Yachting Association’s regional squads.
Moody, 13, said: “Three years ago I did my first Team15 Race on a 3.5 square metre sail. I didn’t even make the start in any of the races. I said to our coach I was never windsurfing again!
“I did – and now I am sailing on a 6.8 sail, about to compete in the junior world championship and have just made the national junior squad."
The clubs under 15 team were joint first in the National Champions Cup at Grafham Water.
In the 5.8 square metre sail fleet, Aoife Calnan finished second, as did Tait in the Team15 7.8 square metre fleet.
Oxford SC provides training every Thursday during the summer at Farmoor.
