MASONS Arms put themselves in contention for the Johnsons Buildbase Oxford and District League Group B title with a 5-1 win over Marlborough Club A, writes PETE EWINS.
They are five points behind leaders Kennington with a game in hand.
Mick Murphy and Martyn Wood put Masons into a 2-0 lead, before Marlborough’s Arthur McIntyre reduced the deficit by beating Alan Lowe 4,570-3,400.
However, Murphy (3,990), Wood (4,470) and Lowe then took the next three games to seal victory.
Eddie Tebby, Bob Parsons and John Patey (2) helped West Oxford Democrats Club to a 4-2 home win over Didcot Conservative Club in Group A.
Jenny Florey (3,600) and Stuart Florey (4,960) replied for Didcot.
