CALLUM Smart won two golds and a silver to help City of Oxford finish in the top 20 at the British Summer National Championships.

The club scooped three golds and three silvers in Ponds Forge, Sheffield, to come 20th in the table, with David Murphy and Rosie Bancroft also among the medals.

Smart, 14, set a national record to win the 15 year 50m breaststroke in 30.32secs.

He also broke south east regional records to take gold in the 200m breaststroke and silver in the 100m breaststroke.

All records are subject to ratification by the ASA.

Murphy, 16, competed in the 17-18 age group, and broke his older brother Alex’s regional record to claim 50m breaststroke silver in 29.00.

He set a further regional record (1.02.84) to finish second in the 100m breaststroke.

Bancroft added to Oxford’s medal tally with a convincing win in the women’s multi-classification 400m freestyle.

For the first time in the club’s history, three teams qualified for the finals.

The girls’ 14-16 year 400m medley relay team of Annie Sharp, Emily Wood, Emily Nisbet and Ellie Millington set a regional and junior county record to reach the final, where they finished outside of the medals.

Dan Jenkins, Smart, Ewan Springett and Chris Wood broke the junior county mark to qualify for the 400m medley relay final (4.09.40).

The girls 14-16 4x100m freestyle team of Amy Coombs, Millington, Rachel Allen and Nisbet also broke the county record with 4.01.52, but missed out on a place in the final.

Elizabeth Oliver, Shannon Motha, Kate Mills and Eleanor McNally made the final in the 17 years and over 800m freestyle.

City’s other individual finalists were Natasha Fenton, Emily Wood and Millington.

Fabian Whitbread, 22, came sixth and eighth in the 400m and 200m individual medley.

Connor Bryan was sixth in the 15 year 50m breaststroke and tenth in the 200m breaststroke.

In the same age group, Ewan Springett finished eighth in the 100m freestyle.

Maia Little and Daniella Springett also qualified for the nationals.
