Oxfordshire Under 25s rounded off their Junior Home Counties League campaign with a convincing 21-shot win over Kent at Kidlington to secure second place in the table.

Both teams started the day in a position to take the runners-up spot behind Surrey, but the home team played more consistently to win 59-38 and pick up eight points to their opponents’ two.

This left four points shy of champions Surrey.

With just two Kent bowls to play, the point score stood at 10-0 to Oxon, but the visitors clinched a consolation win.

Oxon captain George Schwab and Dean May – both playing their last league game at this level – joined up with Brandon King and Jonathan Dadson to lead from start to finish against Matt Rich and run out 22-13 winners.

Dan Wakeman, another taking his final bow, skipped his Oxon rink of Orren Bennett, Tom Tisbury and Dan Swanson to the biggest win of the day over a triple led by Lee Harris.

After being level at five ends the Oxford rink took 12 of the remaining 16 ends to win 19-8, although after Kent were deducted 25 per cent for being a player short, the score was changed to 19-6.

Shane Cooper, playing his first competitive game since cutting his hand, Sam Watts, Joe Woodward – the fourth Oxon player ‘retiring’ through age – and Ben Dickson won eight of the last eleven ends to hold game, going to the decider But Kent skip Taylor Monk snatched a 19-18 win his last two bowls.
