Oxford City Stars’ head coach Simon Anderson has hailed the capture of Andrew Magee and Andrew Bates for their South Division 1 campaign.

Canadian Magee, 23, an offensive player-maker, impressed at Solent Devils last year, with 28 goals and 23 assists in 36 league matches.

“I am delighted Magee has chosen to sign,” said Anderson.

“We had a good look at him at Solent last year.

“He is a guy who will compete at both ends of the ice and is a great guy off it.”

Bates, from Massachusetts, USA, has impressed for the past two seasons at Worcester State University where he was captain.

He played at the same level as City successful import from last season Evan Mackintosh.

Anderson added: “Right from the start of import recruitment, I really wanted two imports from North America because of the impact that Evan had last year.

“But finding guys from that part of the world with EU passports is very hard indeed.

“Andrew Bates came on the radar pretty late and we decided to give him an opportunity.

He’s a leader.

“He put up a better points per game average than Evan at the same level, so we are hoping he will have the same impact.”
