OXFORDSHIRE’S Izzy Taylor was thrilled to be named in the Great Britain squad for the Longines FEI European Eventing Championships at Blair Castle, Scotland, from September 10-13.

The 32-year-old, from Aynho, near Banbury, is among 12 British riders who will contest individual honours, with four of them chosen nearer the time to also battle it out for the team title.

Taylor, who will ride Allercombe Ellie, was particularly pleased to receive the callup after having to withdraw from the world championships in Normandy last year when the same horse suffered a minor setback during training.

She said: “It’s very exciting to be back in the squad after last year’s disappointment.

“I’m delighted for all my owners, support team and sponsors who’ve backed me over the years and who have helped me get to this position.

I’m really looking forward to September.”

Taylor has also been named as one of four riders with reserve horses in KBIS Briarlands Matilda.

Kitty King, who is originally from Lew, near Bampton, has also been selected with Persimmon.

The 31-year-old, now based at Lower Stanton St Quintin, Wiltshire, said: “I’m absolutely over the moon.

“He has had really consistent results at 3*, so I really hoped that we would get the call.

“My last home championships was at Blenheim (2005), and even though it didn’t go to plan it was brilliant riding in front of a home crowd and I know the atmosphere being at home this time will be amazing.”
