TWO women’s triples from Oxford City & County have qualified for the National Championships at Leamington Spa in August.

Vicky Harrison, Margaret Stacey and Jacky Gray comfortably beat Pauline Illott’s trio by 14 shots in the last eight, before claiming victory over Gill Lambourne’s team by nine shots in the semi-final, held at Banbury Borough.

Donna Knight, Gail Gilkes and Katherine Hawes had a close-fought battle with Caroline Campion’s team in the quarter-final sneaking a threeshot victory.

But it was more clear-cut in the last four clash, as they beating the host club’s triple, skipped by Angie Ives, by 11 shots.

Both go on to represent Oxfordshire next month.

Quarter-finals: P Illott 15, J Gray 32; G Lambourne 18, C Bloomfield 16; A Norton 15, A Ives 18; C Campion 13, K Hawes 16.

Semi-finals: J Gray 20, G Lambourne 11; A Ives 9, K Hawes 20.

Meanwhile, Oxfordshire’s flag in the National Pairs Championship will be flown by Hawes and Knight (Oxford City & County) and Carole Galletly and Caroline Campion (Banbury Central).

The former enjoyed a 19-16 win over Carol Penson’s pair in a semi-final clash which lasted three hours and 40 minutes at Shiplake BC.

Galletly and Campion booked their place after a 26-13 victory over the host club’s Sylvia Blackmore team.
