JASON Plato is hoping to continue his fine recent form in rounds seven, eight and nine of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championships at Thruxton this weekend.
The Oxford driver has targeted pole position and race wins in a bid to improve on his fifth-place standing.
Off the back of taking an 89th career victory and his first for Team BMR at Donington Park late last month, the former double champion believes the Volkswagen CC may well be the car to beat.
It is four years since Plato has recorded a win at Thruxton, but he is confident that can be put right this year.
“I think we are going to fly at Thruxton,” he said.
“I’m going there looking for pole position then really assert myself and win some races – we’re going to continue to make a statement to the rest of the pit lane.

“We don’t have to use the soft tyre because of how abrasive the circuit is and due to the high speed nature of Thruxton, the success ballast won’t hamper us either.
“It should all play into our hands to an extent.
“The car has shown in the past that it is competitive around there but this is a different beast, so to speak, as opposed to the past.
“It’s even better now and I’ve really got my tail in the air heading to Thruxton, a big points hauls and some silverware has to be the aim.”
Qualifying starts at 4.05 this afternoon, with the first of three races at 12.10 tomorrow.
Race two starts at 2.30 and race three at 5.15.
All will be broadcast on ITV4.
