Bob Gosbee was a runaway winner of the third leg of Sutton Courtenay AC’s Marketow Shield fished on The Otneys.

The cold weather over the preceding days kept expectations low for the six competitors, but the fish – mainly bream and chub – were duly obliging, all caught on groundbait feeder, worm and maggot.

Gosbee made the most of it, recording a winning weight of 43lb 8oz, double that of runner-up Ian Higgins, who had 21.14.0.

Alan Hewer came in third with 12.5.0 Sutton Courtenay’s last match of the season will be the Hewer Challenge Cup at Culham Reach on March 8.

Malone won with 3.4.0 of roach and skimmers caught on pole with bread punch.

His son Stephen Malone was second with 2.7.0, while Greg Finnemore took third place and lifted the Villagers Cup with 1.15.0.

Dave Britnell won Kidlington AS’s open match, fished by 14 anglers on a pacy River Cherwell at Bransons Meadows.

Britnell had the top weight of 8.10.0, which included a 5lb 1oz chub, to finish ahead of runner-up Alan Middleton, who had four perch and 13 roach for 7.3.0.

He just pipped Henry Clarke, who was third with 7.2.0.
