Blackbird Leys’ Alfie Simms starred with a sparkling success at the club’s annual show at Oxford Sports & Social Club, Roman Way.

Simms was presented with the Dave Richards Trophy for boxer of the day following his unanimous points win over Kayden Connelly (Horseshoe, Swindon).

He was one of five Blackbird Leys lads on the bill.

Kieran Clarke boxed well against the much taller Adam Keating (Welwyn Garden City), but lost out on points.

And Connor O’Mahony suffered a similar fate against Swindon’s Joe Drury in a front of the good-sized crowd.

The show opened with two skills bouts, aimed at providing juniors with experience, but with no points scoring.

Blackbird Leys’ Christy Joyce picked off Patrick Bowens (Pinewood) in impressive fashion, while clubmate AJ Desmond boxed cleverly to force Ronnie Cooper (Leigh Park) back in all three rounds.

There were five other bouts, with Amun Kaylan (Marston, Bedford) battling hard to record a points win over South Oxhey’s Jack Pattison.
