OXFORD City Stars moved off the bottom of South Division 1 for the first time in two months with a 4-2 win at London Raiders.

Stars were unable to make it a brace of victories in their weekend double-header as they went down 10-2 away to Solent Devils.

But Saturday’s success was still enough for them to swap places with Raiders, who are the new basement boys.

Oxford announced before the trip to the Lee Valley Ice Centre that Jamie Newton has left to set up a new business in London and Slovakian import Michal Tomasik had returned home.

And they were 2-0 down after Vaclav Drabek and Joshua Condren struck in the first period.

It wasn’t until well into the second period that Stars opened their account with Joe Edwards scoring on the powerplay.

Within two minutes, they were level thanks to Nick Oliver, before James Pentecost fired them ahead.

Edwards’s second in the first minute of the final period sealed Oxford’s success.

It was a different story 24 hours later as Stars were hammered by Solent Devils at Gosport Ice Rink.

A tight first period provided no indication of what was to follow as Oxford ended it trailing to an Andrew Campbell strike.

The Devils captain doubled his side’s advantage with a goal on the powerplay in the first minute of the second period.

Josh Oliver pulled one back for Oxford, but Alexander Cole restored Solent’s two-goal cushion, again on the powerplay, and Ryan Mcfarlane made it 4-1.

Campbell completed a four-timer by striking twice more in the first two minutes of the third period to effectively kill off Stars’ challenge.

Raifs Circenis made it 7-1, before Edwards pulled one back for Stars on the powerplay.

However, that was to prove scant consolation as Jamie Fitzpatrick, with a powerplay goal, George Norcliffe and Joshua Abbott completed Oxford’s misery.

Stars are without a game this weekend, but have a swift reunion with Solent at Oxford Ice Rink on December 21.
