Oxford City Stars are in a race against time to complete the signing of an unnamed Slovakian player before the game at Wightlink Raiders on Saturday.

Stars believe they have found their man to replace Kyle Flemington, the Canadian import who left for Edinburgh this summer without playing a single game for Oxford.

But it will go to the wire to see if all the necessary paperwork can be completed before their trip to the Isle of Wight this weekend.

Stars are waiting to hear if the International Ice Hockey Federation in Zurich will approve the transfer of the 31-year-old player.

While not having any trouble attracting interest from players, the big issue Stars have struggled with is finding a place for a new import to stay while they were finding their feet in a new country.

Their potential recruit has spent time in the second divisions of both Slovakia and France.

However, he is not due to land in England until Friday, and it will then be a race against the clock to get everything through in time for him to make his debut the following day.

Stars are hoping their new signing will provide a much-needed lift after losing five of their opening South Division 1 games this season.
