OXFORD Hawks had mixed fortunes as they warmed up for the new league campaign in the Plum pre-season tournament at St Albans.

Playing twice on Saturday, they beat Maidenhead 3-1, before going down 1-0 against Harleston Magpies.

Starting against Maidenhead, newly-promoted to the National League, they fell behind after ten minutes to a fine individual effort.

But Hawks hit back strongly and Katie Hewitt equalised from Briony Hearn’s cross before half-time.

They found another gear after the break, creating a host of good opportunities.

Hie Sawyer put them in front after a good move involving Bex Oakes and Kara Haines.

Sawyer quickly added another to seal the win.

The Magpies proved a tougher test and Hawks had to defend stoutly to keep the game scoreless by the break.

But the pressure finally told in the second half, as Harleston scored the only goal of the game.

Other results: Oxford Hawks Ladies 2nd 6, Bloxham School Ladies 1; Oxford Hawks Ladies 2nd 0, Buckingham 2nd 2; Oxford Hawks Ladies 3rd 2, Marlow 2nd 3; Oxford Hawks Ladies 6th 1, Oxford Hawks 5th 2.
