PETE Clarke, from Littlemore, mastered the dreadful weather conditions best to win the Pete Jackson Memorial Match on the Thames at Sandford.

Heavy rain at the start plus constant showers and gale- force winds, which kept changing direction, resulted in broken poles and landing nets.

Fishing from peg 25, Clarke caught small roach on the waggler, with caster hookbait, for a remarkable weight of 19lb 13.0oz.

Tony Gee (Acorn Angling) weighed in a credible 13.10.0 of small roach, caught on the whip with hemp and maggot hookbait, for second place, while Steve Ings was third with 8.15.0.

Richard Norris (Drennan International) and Paul Bowers (Acorn Angling) won Section A and B respectively.

Amazingly 18 anglers braved it until the end.

Bob Gosbee won Sutton Courtenay AC’s John Prior Memorial Match at The Otneys, where six fished. Gosbee recorded 25.0.0, mostly bream on maggot or worm.

Alan Hewer was runner-up with 21.8.0, with Enrico Granito third on 7.4.0 Sutton Courtenay’s next competition will be the Magic Memorial Match at Lower Moors, Culham Reach on August 24.

Colin Perry (Subfish Angling) made the long journey down from Mansfield to win the practice match for the next round of the Oxford Summer League, which was fished by 46 anglers on the Thames at Abingdon.

Drawn on Sutton Courtenay’s water, Perry caught one big bream plus skimmers and perch for 15.12.0.

Kevin Holmes (Sensas A4) came second with 14.14.0, pipping third-placed Alex Graham (unattached), who had 14.8.0.

John Spencer topped the 100lb mark when winning Tackley Sports’ match at Lodge Farm, Fritwell.
