Witney Mills were relegated from Division 1 of the Oxford & District League, sponsored by Yarnton Nurseries, following a crushing 5½-½ defeat by Oxford City & County A.

Going into the final round of matches, Mills knew they had to post a good win, while at the same time hoping Banbury Central A didn’t pick up four points at Cart-erton.

But Mills’ fate was sealed as they were swept aside by City & County.

Paul Comley led the way for the visitors with a 32-12 win in the 92-67 scoreline.

Central, meanwhile, won on three rinks as they raced to a 5-1 victory.

John Tee’s four shone with a 36-16 win as the visitors triumphed 105-76.

With Headington A having won the title two weeks ago, they signed off with an attempt to bring some fun into their match at Ship-lake.

The newly-crowned champions put the names of their 16 players into a hat and drew for rinks and playing positions.

Despite this novel app-roach, they still pushed Shiplake hard, before losing 4-2, with Barry Lamb-ourne’s rink posting a crucial 11-shot success in the 70-65 scoreline.

Bicester secured the second promotion spot in Division 2, despite losing 5-1 at Thame, whose victory saw them beat the drop.

Their win, together with Charlbury’s 6-0 home win over already-relegated Chipping Norton, condemns Banbury Chestnuts, who had completed their programme, to a second successive relegation.

Ably fronted by David Dix’s side, which won 34-4, Charlbury claimed victory on all four rinks to triumph 107-54.

Watlington, meanwhile, missed the chance to leap-frog Bicester and grab the other promotion place as they crashed 5-1 at home to newly-crowned champions West Witney.

Adderbury clinched the Division 3 title with a 4-2 home win over Witney Town.

Banbury Central B were relegated, despite a 4-2 home win over Blackbird Leys.

Chadlington claimed the second promotion spot in Division 4 with a 6-0 home win over Florence Park.
