West Witney stormed to the Division 2 title in the Oxford & District League, sponsored by Yarnton Nurseries, with a crushing 6-0 home win over Thame.

Kevin Alder’s side led the way for West Witney with a 22-10 victory as they recorded a clean sweep of all four rinks in the 80-63 success to return to the top flight at the first attempt.

Bicester took advantage of Watlington’s inactivity to go second in the race for the other promotion place, with a 4-2 win at Chipping Norton, who are relegated.

Paul Hooley’s resounding 37-3 victory gave the 91-60 scoreline a somewhat distorted look.

In their final fixtures, Bicester entertain relegation-threatened Thame, while Watlington are at home to West Witney.

Charlbury boosted their hopes of beating the drop with a 4-2 triumph at Banbury Chestnuts, who now face an anxious wait to see if they will survive, having completed their fixtures.

Jim Stevens’s rink chalked up a 31-15 win to give Charlbury the edge in the 83-74 encounter.

Newly-crowned Division 1 champions Headington A chalked up their eighth century of shots this season in a 5-1 home win over Witney Mills.

Mark Charlett’s and Jason King’s rinks won by 20 and 19 shots respectively as Headington eased home 104-59.

However, the most important win in the match may be that of Mills’s Chris Weller, whose 19-15 victory over Nick Rae-Welsh provided his side with a point, which boosts their survival hopes.

Mills may also want to send a gift to Paul Comley, who produced one of the best pressure bowls of the season for Oxford City & County A in their 5-1 win at Banbury Central A.

With the last wood of the match in his hand, Central were ahead by one shot overall, giving them a four-point advantage over Mills in the relegation battle.

Comley not only drew shot, but pushed Central’s shot wood away enough to give his team two shots and a 85-83 victory.

It leaves Central with a two-point cushion over relegation rivals Mills.

Bloxham were crowned Division 4 champions with a hard-fought 4½-1½ win at West Oxford.

Ron Higgins’s rink led the way with a 25-15 victory.
