North Oxford will be looking to former professional Jeff Hunter to help boost their Aegon Team Tennis League Southern Regional Division promotion hopes.

Only victory against Worcestershire’s Beckford on Sunday at Banbury Road sports ground (12pm start) will do for North Oxford.

On Sunday, Hunter returned to the fold as they won 6-0 at Banbury in the league.

An ex-Oxford University captain and triple blue, Hunter was part of the ATP Tour in 1992-94 and is a three-time World Student Games medalist.

Hunter, a Surrey men’s county team player since 1986, was 11 times the men’s singles champion at the All England Club Wimbledon Members Tournament.

l John Spratt, from Banbury, helped England to win the Veterans Four Nations tournament at Bolton Arena.

Spratt won all three of his singles matches against Scotland, Wales and Ireland in the over 65’s category.

l Laila Zugic (Virgin Active), Lois McNulty (White Horse), Grace Tully (White Horse) and Imogen Hunt (White Horse & Faringdon) represent Oxfordshire at the Girls 10 & under County Cup.

The girls group is being hosted at Oxford Sports Club, in Hinksey on June 2/3.

They face Buckinghamshire, Gloucestershire, Hertfordshire and Middlesex and will have to be at their best to equal last year’s second-place fin-ish.

The boys contenders are playing off this week.
