Woodstock Harrier Steve Naylor cruised to victory in the final round of the 2010 Mota-vation Series in Oxford to confirm second place in the series.
In-form Naylor clocked 20mins 21secs over the 4.1-mile course to see off the challenge of Oxford City’s Darrell Bellinger by 24 seconds.
With series winner Mathew Ashton looking on, Naylor led from start to finish, with Abingdon’s Paul Fernandez finishing back in tenth place to secure third place in the series.
Ashton did not need to run in the final round, having romped to victory in course record times in each of the previous four rounds to secure the title.
In the team competition, Abingdon completed an outstanding season by capturing their first championship.
Amblers packed six runners into the top 16 to ensure a comfortable winning margin over both Oxford City and Woodstock Harriers.
They were led home by Phil Egerton in sixth place, while Simon Fisher finished in seventh.
The improving Daniel Hamilton claimed his first top ten finish in ninth, and was also first in the under 19 category.
Incredibly, Abingdon won each of the five races in the series with a fine total of under 300 points – a figure not achieved since six-team scorers were introduced.
Other individual series wins went to Steve Male (Oxford City, vet 40), Paul Gregory (Vale of Aylesbury, vet 50) and Roy Treadwell (Oxford City, vet 60).
The women’s series was won by Jenny McBain, who also led Alchester to the team title.
Headington Roadrunners’ Diane Moore won the vet 35 ladies’ series, while Witney Roadrunner Nicola Gomm was crowned vet 45 champion.
Eynsham Roadrunner Kate Williamson landed the vet 55 ladies’ crown.
