OXFORDSHIRE Under 18s broke a 33-year-old record when finishing tenth in the England Inter County tournament at Nottingham University.

The four-day event is the pinnacle for junior players.

Oxon’s previous best result was 11th in 1984.

On the first day, they finished second in their group after wins over Lincolnshire and Cumbria, alongside a defeat to Devon.

Despite tough losses to Warwickshire and Essex, Oxon beat Dorset 6-4 to land 12th.

They levelled the county’s previous best finish at the start of day three, beating Middlesex 6-4.

Defeat to Lancashire set up a shoot-out for tenth with Cheshire on the final day.

And Oxon battled to lead 5-4, before Maisie Marriott and Bronwynn Ready won the girls’ doubles to land victory.
