A DEPLETED Radley dug deep to finish second in the first Southern League Division 2 West fixture of the season in Tooting, South London.

Under 17 Josh Brant put in one of the best performances of the day, with personal bests in the high jump (1.60m), long jump (6.28), and triple jump (12.54), as well as helping the 4x100m relay team to victory.

Relay teammate Matthew Johnson won the 100m in an ESAA qualifying time of 11.1secs and came second in the 200m.

In the ladies event, Emma Haley won the 800m by 15 seconds.

Tara Kafke began the season with victory in the 400m and a second-placed finish in the 200m.

League counterparts Oxford City started their campaign at Horspath, scoring 190 points for third place.

Anna Niedbala dominated the throwing events, winning the A-string shot, discus and hammer.

Rebecca Hussey took the 100m in a season’s best of 12.40secs, before finishing second in the 200m.

Ella Turner (400m), Alice Byles (400m hurdles), Amberley Vircavs (long jump), Amy Walter (B-string hammer) and Danielle Anderson (javelin) also triumphed.

Aidan Whiting scored good points for City when winning the B-string 110m hurdles and long jump.

Tim Stephens leaped 6.41m to land the A event of the long jump, while William Gardner won the B-string 1,500m.

HEADINGTON’S Samuel O’Neill finished second at the Carterton 10K.

He finished five seconds behind winner Chris Krzywiec, of North Cotswold Tri and Run, in 34mins 46secs.

Witney Roadrunners duo Chris Colbeck and Matthew Lock were fifth and sixth respectively.

Sarah Lackman, of Abingdon, was the first female home in eighth overall.

Oxford City’s Dan Blake won the 5k by more than four minutes, crossing in 16.03.
