Oliver Coulcher-Porter overcame the odds and a year’s age gap to claim the under 11s title at the Oxfordshire Championships.

The nine-year-old from Great Haseley, who plays for the Thame-based Racquets Club, landed the title easily, having only started the sport last year.

It capped a successful weekend for the Coulcher-Porter family, with Oliver’s sister Emily, who is only seven, also reaching the under 11 final in her first ever tournament.

Former world No 3 Sue Wright is set to offer aspiring squash players top-quality coaching with the launch of her new academy at The Park Sports Centre, Wheatley, on Saturday.

The opening event will take place from 2-4pm and includes a trickshot challenge plus 'balloon buster' to help raise money for Unicef.

It is part of World Squash Day, now in its 14th year, which is supported by the national governing body, England Squash & Racketball, and the World Squash Federation.
