CALLUM O’Dowda cannot wait for his first taste of a game against Swindon Town after getting permission to delay his trip to meet up with the Ireland Under 21 squad.

The winger will miss Saturday’s fixture with AFC Wimbledon due to selection for Euro 2017 qualifiers against Lithuania and Italy.

But while Swindon will be without Louis Thompson, who is away with Wales’s under 21s, O’Dowda is able to play in the derby.

The 20-year-old from Kidlington is delighted to be available.

He said: “The meet with Ireland was on the Tuesday, but the manager knows some players have games that night, so I think I’m playing and then the Wednesday morning I’ll fly out to Dublin.

“I’ve watched a lot of these games and it means a lot because I’m an Oxford boy.”

Everyone in yellow will be hoping to bag the winner, which is an experience George Baldock knows very well.

The full back scored with a stunning left-footed shot in the 90th minute to earn parent club MK Dons a 2-1 win at Swindon Town in March 2014.

Baldock, who ripped off his shirt in a frenzied celebration, said: “I’ve shown the boys that a few times on Youtube.

“It’s one I’m quite proud of, scoring a last-minute winner, and if I can replicate that tonight I’m sure the shirt might come off again.

“I’ve played in derby games before and I know the stakes are high.

“We all want to win as much as the fans do.”
