TWO goals in the space of a minute saw Oxford United Women come from behind to claim a 3-2 victory at Watford in FA Women’s Super League 2, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

Sahara Osborne-Ricketts headed the U’s into a first-half lead, but goals from Mia Farrow and Ellie Morgan for the hosts left them staring at a fourth straight defeat.

But Katie Stanley’s 84th-minute equaliser was followed just a minute later by Destiney Toussaint’s first goal for the club to ensure a first win in seven games for United.

The visitors dominated the opening stages and came close to opening the scoring in the 26th minute when Kayleigh Hines’ header was deflected onto a post.

Watford’s debutant goalkeeper Deger Zekai kept out Holly Pickett’s low drive, getting down low to her right to push it around the post after the United winger had found space on the edge of the box.

But there was nothing Zekai could do about the resulting corner, which was headed on by Rosie Lane for Osborne-Ricketts to glance in at the back post.

Less than two minutes after the break, Watford were level.

Farrow hit a long looping cross from wide on the left, which sailed over the head of United keeper Demi Lambourne and into the far corner of the net.

The U’s were then denied a penalty after Laura Nichol appeared to be tripped in the Watford area, but their appeals were waved away by the referee.

And things got worse for the visitors 15 minutes from time when Mason cut through the Oxford defence before firing in a low left-footed shot from just inside the area.

But Oxford hit back late on, equalising when Stanley spotted the Watford goalkeeper off her line before attempting an ambitious lob of her own from near the touchline, which just evaded the backpedalling Zekai’s grasp to nestle in the net.

Barely a minute later United found a controversial winner, when a ball was launched into the box once more.

Three attackers threw themselves at it, tangling with Zekai, but Toussaint got the decisive final touch as the ball trickled over the line to riotous celebrations from the travelling players.
