Bicester Blue Fins kept up their superb form by winning seven gold medals at the second weekend of the ASA South East Regional Championships in Portsmouth.

Lottie Wynne-Jones was in blistering form, claiming victory in all three long-distance events in the age 11/12 category.

She finished 16 seconds clear of the field in the girls’ 400m individual medley in 5mins 19.64secs in a club record.

Wynne-Jones also won the 400m freestyle in 4.42.64 and the 800m freestyle in 9.41.36, with a winning margin of 19 seconds, both of which were club age group records.

Sport

Maddy Powell claimed silver in the 400m individual medley and freestyle in the same age category.

Kieran Bird set a club record time of 16.21.18 on his way to a silver medal in the under 16 1,500m freestyle.

Ellie Falkner, Neve Gascoyne, Sinead Vine-Nealon and Chloe Wanless struck gold in the girls’ age 14-16 4x100m medley and freestyle, setting club record times in both disciplines.

Their achievements were matched by Bird, Callum Laird, Josh Rowland and William Whitley in the boys’ age 14-16 4x100m medley and 4x200m freestyle events.

City of Oxford’s squad won three gold medals and set a number of county records.

The junior girls’ 4x100m medley relay team of Annie Sharp, Emily Wood, Emily Nisbet and Ellie Millington kicked off the medal bonanza with gold in a time of 4.24.19, smashing the Oxfordshire & North Bucks Junior county record by seven seconds.

Nisbet and Millington combined with Olivia Webster and Amy Coombs to win the 4x100m freestyle, in a county junior record of 4.01.58, beating the previous mark by four seconds, though that still has to be ratified.

Shannon Motha, Daniella Springett, Lucy Smith and Eleanor McNally struck silver in the women’s 17 years and over 4 x 100m freestyle in 4.01.05, and bronzes in the 4x100m medley (4.31.49) and the 4x200m freestyle relays (8.52.39).

Chris Currie claimed gold in the men’s multi-classification 400m freestyle (4.50.32), while Ewan Springett, 15, landed silver in the 1500m freestyle in 17.12.24.

Emily Nisbet also 15, took silver in the girls 16-year-old (age at end of year) 400m individual medley in 5.06.95.

l FARINGDON synchronised swimmers Genevieve Randall and Emma Critchley have been selected to represent Great Britain at the inaugural European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Both train daily in Aldershot while studying for GCSEs and A-Levels – Randall at King Alfred's Academy, Wantage and Critchley at Faringdon Community College.

Randall will represent Great Britain as a soloist as well as competing in duet and team events, and Critchley has been selected as reserve for the duet event as well as competing in the team events.

Though both have since transferred to elite high-performance clubs, Randall and Critchley took up synchronised swimming at the Witney & District club.
