LES Taylor was left feeling hard done by after seeing his Oxford United Women’s side sickeningly beaten 3-2 at home to Everton thanks to a 92nd-minute penalty, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

The U’s appeared to be cruising to a third straight victory after taking an early two-goal lead, courtesy of strikes from Lauren Allison and Katie Stanley.

And the United manager admitted that to lose the game from that position was a tough blow to take.

“It’s very deflating,” he said.

“To concede a penalty in the 92nd minute – and it was a penalty – is very disappointing.

“Going 2-0 up, you always thought that if Everton got a goal back they’d be in the game.

“But we worked tremendously hard in the second half and I don’t think we got our just rewards.”

But despite the defeat Taylor said he was proud of his team’s efforts against an Everton side tipped for promotion back to WSL 1.

He said: “This time last year we had no points and we’ve got ten at the minute, which is a massive improvement and just shows how much we’ve come on as a team.

“Obviously we’re going to have to try and lift the girls, because a result like this deflates you a little bit, but I think they can be pleased with their performance today.”
