An early defensive blunder led to Didcot Town suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Swindon Supermarine in Division 1 South & West of the Evo-Stik Southern League on Saturday.

The only goal came in the 11th minute when Supermarine’s Josh Morse seized on the error and beat Didcot keeper James Foster with a composed finish.

Jack Self looked like scoring his first goal for the visitors, but his volley was well saved by the home side’s former Didcot keeper Sam Warrell.

The Railwaymen’s best chance came when Andy Ballard’s throw was headed against the bar by Luke Carnell.

Supermarine should have doubled the lead just before half-time when Luke Hopper put the ball over when clear.

Didcot made changes in the second half to no avail.

Substitute Jimmy Deabill came closest, but his shot was tipped round by Warrell.

Didcot’s joint-manager Jamie Heapy, playing his 848th game for the club, came off with a hamstring injury, making him doubtful for the last league game and his testimonial in three weeks.
