The heroics of goalkeeper Ria Male could not prevent Oxford Hawks losing 2-0 at Slough in Investec Conference West.

The Welsh international made a number of top-class saves, especially early on as Slough dominated.

The hosts eventually broke the deadlock from the penalty spot after a goalbound strike was blocked by the body of Briony Hearn.

In the second half, Hawks faced a number of penalty corners but some outstanding blocks from Bex Oakes and Hearn prevented the home side from extending their lead.

Hawks almost levelled through Emily Court but strong defending kept her out. But Slough killed off the game with a well-taken strike into the corner of the goal.

Witney went clear at the top of South Clubs League Division 3A with a hard-earned 1-0 victory away to closest rivals PHC Chiswick.

The visitors took the lead when a penalty corner was played in by captain Katie Gatt for striker Hayley Dobson to deflect home.

In the second half Chiswick continued to attack and some controversial umpiring frustrated the away team as they protected their slim lead, but they held on for an important victory.

Kidlington drew 2-2 with Bicester 2nd in Trysports League Division 2.

Bicester took an early lead through Jan Southam, but Kidlington levelled through Abbie Hiles from a short corner.

In the second half, Kidlington took the lead through Ellie Desmond.

But Bicester did not give up and equalised late on through Southam’s second goal.
