Wantage Concords 7 Didcot Town Youth A 0 A matter of weeks after suffering their first defeat of the season in the Berks & Bucks Cup, Wantage hosted their neighbours from Didcot, hoping to redress the balance after the 5-2 reverse at Edmonds Park the previous month.
The home side had the perfect start, going ahead in the first minute as Anthony Martin tucked away a chance after good work by Kieran Cooper and Jordan Davis on the right. Wantage established the upper hand for much of the half, limiting the visitors to very few attacking opportunities but, with just a single goal separating the sides, it remained a close game until Wantage found their scoring boots in a five minute spell just before the break. Jordan again worked hard on the right and when he was bought down in the penalty area, the referee pointed to the spot. Jack Alexander put away the penalty with a firm finish. Soon after Jordan got the goal his efforts deserved and Didcot were reeling. Before the interval Mason Curtis got in on the act to make it 4-0.
As the second half got under way it was apparent that the next goal was going to be vital. After an even opening ten minutes it was Wantage who scored, Mason getting on the end of a great move down the right to grab his second of the game. Didcot knew the game was over but they continued to battle against a confident Wantage side. Five became six from a Mason corner which was deflected in off a Didcot defender. Wantage wrapped up the scoring with a crisp finish at the far post.
For Wantage it was an excellent team performance against a team who are always difficult opponents.
