Summertown concluded their league campaign with a win in a 15 goal extravaganza that will have the crowds flooding back! If it wasn't raining and so windy...
Right from the first 20 seconds Summertown signalled their attacking intent when Jack Dark thundered a 15 yard shot against the cross bar and the first half continued in that vein as they attacked in waves with impressive passing and movement off the ball.
Abingdon soon found themselves 3 down with goals from James Othen, and Dark (2) before they got themselves into the match with two strikes from Alex Woodham and what initially appeared to be a comfortable first game for Summertown soon turned a lot closer and less comfortable.
A great 15 yard strike from Kyle Orum was matched by Woodham to complete his hat-trick but Dark restored the two-goal advantage when he was put through expertly by James Othen to slot past the on-coming keeper. First match 5-3.
The second match was just as exciting with both teams working really hard for each other and trying to pass and play. As the pitch cut up and got wetter it was harder to play as good football as the first match but they all gave it their best efforts and it meant some really competitive tackles were taking place all over the park.
Summertown took the lead with a couple of good goals from Jake Taylor, Hal Woodall and Angus Tufnell to relax any nerves but Abingdon hit back with two goals from Billy Wilson to keep the match in the balance. Summertown eventually ran out 5-2 winners with further strikes from Woodall and Taylor, both from outside of the area.
A confidence boosting match for Summertown ahead of their Cup Final in 4 weeks time, even though they lost the friendly third match 4-2.
