Headington Sharks 3 Berinsfield 2

Sharks were made to work very hard but ran out 3-2 winners against Berinsfield.

The visitors started the stronger side and quickly were putting pressure on the Sharks goal. A succession of well-taken corners almost saw a goal as one cross flashed across the goalmouth and then alert and brave goal keeping by Joe Wright denied another opportunity. The home side started to get more into the game as they got used to a new formation and anchor man Alex Northover put a great ball into the box for Connor Madden to finish low to the Berinsfield keepers left.

The goal settled the home side and shortly afterwards a corner from Northover was flashed home in the box by Dany Ziada. Just on the stroke of half time a superb jinking run into the box by Connor Madden saw him slip a pass to Dany Ziada who pushed the ball past the keeper to make it three nil at half time.

Berinsfield however were far from finished and almost directly from the kick off good wing play forced a corner. Using a good short corner move Cody Deakin advanced into the box and lashed the ball home. The goal inspired the visitors and they began to put heavy pressure on the Sharks goal. Tate Mclean got in one vital block to force away for a corner, from the corner the ball was eventually played into the middle and Joe Bennett scored to put the visitors right back in the match.

The match now switched from end to end with an excellent save from the Berinsfield keeper pushing a shot from Lewis Bowyer onto the post and then diving on the rebound. Malyke Mason then launched himself into a goal saving tackle when Berinsfield looked to have burst clear. There was still time for one final corner but after a frantic scramble Sharks managed to clear and just held on to win. An excellent game of attacking & exciting football.
