Football is not about winning. The Cobras have played some good football this season, and despite losing 13 games against strong opposition they remained upbeat and energetic. On Saturday their last match was against local rivals Summertown Eagles, who have had a better season and won their previous encounter 6-5. It was a heated battle in the sunshine over Cutteslowe Park. In the first half of the first match, the Cobras showed some lovely attacking play and two goals by Hamish Harrison-Cushing put them in front. However, the Eagles pushed back in the second half, and were unlucky to hit the cross-bar. The second match started with the same intensity as the first. A stunning long-range strike by David White gave the Cobras a three-goal cushion. But the Eagles kept pressing forward, and Tommy Bleakley rifled the ball into the Cobras goal to make it 3-1. In the final half, both teams gave it everything. Another long-range effort by David White restored the three-goal lead for Cobras. Laurie Cooke clawed one back late on, but time ran out and the Cobras could celebrate their first victory of the season. Final score: Summertown Cobras 4 v 2 Summertown Eagles.

Didcot maintained their unbeaten league run with a hard fought victory over Cumnor Minors. The opening game was a tight affair with Cumnor slightly the better side in the first half and they took the lead with the first shot of the game and would have extended it had it not been for a fine save from Callum Denton in the Didcot goal. Didcot nearly levelled shortly after but Jack White was denied by a combination of the keeper and the woodwork. On the stroke of half time Cumnor hit the bar from a corner and it was 1-0 to the visitors at the break. Didcot equalised at the start of the second half, Jack White scoring a stunning goal from the edge of the box after a flowing move. Cumnor finished the first game on top and would have won had it not been for several very good saves from Callum Denton, the first game finished 1-1. Didcot dominated the second game and were thwarted on several occasions by some fine goalkeeping by Daniel Heffernan in the Cumnor goal. He made fine saves to deny Josh Lyons, Billy Janes & James Pearson but he was finally beaten on the stroke of half time by a low drive by James Pearson. Didcot extended their lead at the start of the second half, James Pearson heading home Josh Lyons corner. Cumnor pulled a goal back straight away only for James Pearson to complete his hat trick after a fine through ball from Dylan Richards. Didcot scored two further goals through Declan Hargreaves & Josh Lyons and the second game finished 5-1 to Didcot (6-2 over the two games).
