Greater leys u14 2 AFC Newbury 1 What a fabtastic match to watch with two well matched teams on display.

Newbury started brightly with possesion and could play, and Greater Leys caught them many times on the break with no real success in front of goal.

The 2nd hallf started brightly for both teams, then against the run of play, the experienced referree gave a penalty to Newbury when the ball made contact with a Greater Leys player in the area.

The spot kick was converted by Joe Hobbs, although the keeper made contact.

Greater leys then fought back with a few attempts on goal and their persistence paid off when skipper Ben Anderson struke from 25yrds out to beat a top keeper at his near post to equalise.

Benji then had a penalty saved by a top keeper in the Newbury goal when a player ran into the Keeper.

The match ended 1-1 in regulation time, and extra time loomed.

The 2nd period of extra time started with Dan Scoble breaking clear from midfield and struke the ball from 30yrds into the top corner as the keeper watched on with surprise.

Newbury fought back to make a great attempt at a late equaliser but the Kites defense closed the door at every opportunity. Newbury hit the post as the keepers fingertips denied the last strike of the game.

Well done to Greater Leys ensuring the CUP stays in the Oxford OX4 area along with the County Cup won by Oxford Black Birds........as did last year when Horspath completed the League and County cup double.
