A tight top-of-the-table clash was turned into a comprehensive victory for Didcot in a three minute display of quality finishing and tremendous passing and was capped at the end by the most superb free kick you’ll see all season.
The first game was very close and could have gone either way with Abingdon scoring first through Moritz Tolle, a looping effort from long range. But Didcot battled back and secured a 1-1 draw with a long run down the left hand wing and near post shot by Harry Powell.
Game two started just as evenly but after absorbing the early Abingdon threat, Didcot mounted a devastating series of attacks that saw four goals fly into the net in three amazing minutes. Quality finishes from Oliver Wilkins (2), Bradley Moon and Connor Ferguson sent the home side in 4-nil up at half time. Abingdon grabbed a goal back in the second half through Joshua Franks, but the final attack of the match ended in a free kick to Didcot that Connor Ferguson fizzed in left footed with such pace it nearly broke the net!
A fantastic end to a great match that ended in a harsh result for Abingdon, but a deserved win for Didcot that stretched their lead at the top of the league to six points with a game in hand.
