In their third match of the season St Edmunds FC have Bouncebackability, skilful passing and strong support play led St Edmunds to a 3–0 away victory over a competitive Barton United side in Oxford Mail’s U9 Green League.
After the dissapointment of losing the week before St Edmunds produced some excellent football against a very determined and strong Barton United at the recreation Ground.
The referees whistle signalled the start for St Edmunds to prove to themselves that last weeks lose was hopefully just a blip in this seasons games. Both sides were putting together some great passes in the first half which resulted in the half time score being 0 - 0. During the first half all the boys were working hard to close down the ball against some fierce attacking at either end of the pitch. St Edmunds had more success in keeping the ball in the opposition’s half, but their efforts on target were stamped out by the defence of Barton United. Both teams deserved the lead but in the end it was a stalemate.
Second Half kicked off and it started just as the first half had finished with some great attacking and some strong defending by both teams which is a credit to the League and all the players. In the end the stronger side got the early break though from a corner. Harry Thomas stepped up to take the corner for St Edmunds and with a late run into the box came Oliver Deans to volley the ball into the back of the net, just as we planned the previous night in training. Yet more positive attacking from St Edmunds which won them yet another corner. Again Harry Thomas swept the ball into the box and in came the teams Birthday Boy Zach Wilson to head in the second and put St Edmunds into a commanding lead. But Barton United wouldn't let there heads go down and still played some passing football and tried in vain to get onto the score sheet, during a Barton United attack the St Edmunds defence broke up the attack and the ball was sweetly struck by Josh Cox the rock in defence up to midfielder Zach Wilson who produced a excellent shot only for the Barton goalkeeper to produce a great save resulting in another corner. This time Oliver Deans took the corner and the ball bounced to Harry Thomas who controlled it with his right and scored with his left. In the end St Edmunds ran out to a 3-0 win which proves we have BOUNCEBACKABILITY.
The second game was played with as much passing and ability by both teams and produced yet another good game to watch and was a credit to all the coaching staff from both teams but in the end it was settled by a single goal, that was scored by Josh Cox.
