Oxford's Andy Triggs Hodge said Australia should prepare for a real battle in Friday's men’s fours final after stroking Great Britain to semi-final success.

Britain’s crew of Triggs Hodge, Oxford Blue Pete Reed, Henley’s Tom James and Leander’s Alex Gregory went into the race with a point to prove, having lost their last two races to the Aussies at the Munich World Cup regatta.

They trailed by 1.2 seconds at the 1,500m mark, but Triggs Hodge upped the ante at stroke.

With the crowd roaring them on, Britain passed Australia to secure victory in 5.58.26, almost a second clear of their rivals.

Looking ahead to the final, Triggs Hodge said: “The thing I’m most scared of is how much pain I can put myself through.

“Regardless of what they are going to throw at us, we are going to dig deep. We have been through a hell of a lot.

“This is another moment to see how deep we can go, to reach the bottom and find out what the body is capable of.”

Wallingford’s Zac Purchase and Leander’s Mark Hunter came from behind to win their lightweight men’s double scull semi-final and also go for gold.

Oxford-born Bryony Shaw’s bid to repeat her bronze medal-winning feat from Beijing 2008 looks to be fading fast in the windsurfing.

She was sixth and eighth in the RS:X with four races to go before the medal showdown, dropping from sixth to seventh overall.
