Oxford Hawks fired a warning to their South League Premier 1 rivals as they hit six goals in each half to crush West Hampstead 12-1 in London.

They set their stall out early on when Tom Godding netted after three minutes.

West Hampstead levelled from a short corner and then forced three good saves from keeper Dave Jones. After that, it was one-way traffic. Charlie Ellison made it 2-1 from a penalty corner and further goals followed before the break from Ethan Chapman, Dave Cresswell (2) and Godding again.

The second half continued in the same vein, Godding completing his hat-trick and Cresswell adding three more.

Ted Bennett and the goal of the game finished by Sam Chilvers put the icing on the cake.

Oxford came out on top 5-3 at Ashford (Middlesex) in Regional 1.

They went ahead with a goal from debutant Hendrick Wolleswinkel, Ashford hitting back from a short corner which was deflected in off skipper Matt Fisher.

It was a similar story at the other end when Dan Pilbeam’s cross was touched by the keeper to make it 2-1 at the break.

Oxford opened up a three-goal lead at the start of the second half, following short-corner goals from Matt McKeown and George Payne.

The home side reduced the arrears and Oxford lost their discipline for a spell, with three players yellow-carded.

Ashford closed the gap to one before a fifth Oxford goal from Bas Majoor sealed it.

Witney followed last week’s opening Division 2 win with a disappointing 3-1 defeat away to Maidenhead. After having the better of the early exchanges, Witney conceded a sloppy goal after twice failing to clear. This was followed by a sustained period of Maidenhead pressure which saw them lead 2-0 at the break. Witney improved in the second half, with Tim Hardy reducing the deficit from a short corner, but as they pushed for an equaliser, they were caught on the counter with five minutes to go.

Bicester took an early away to local rivals Banbury 2nd in MBB&O Division 1, but finished 3-1 losers.

Jonny Reid put them ahead, only for poor defending to present Banbury with three soft goals inside 20 minutes.

Despite dominating the second half, Bicester could not find a way past the excellent Banbury keeper.
