OXFORD City Stars thanked supporters after a sell-out 1,000 crowd packed into Oxpens to cheer the team to victory against Cardiff.

Fans queued around the block to watch the Stars storm back to the top of the South Division 2 table.

It was the biggest crowd of the season – boosted by a Stars community schools project to celebrate the Winter Olympics.

Stars director Greig Box Turnbull, said: “It was brilliant to see the rink full, it gave the players a lift and demonstrates both the progress we are making as a club and the potential we have here.

“What was additionally encouraging was the number of messages we have received as a club from people who visited for the first time and really enjoyed it.

“The community partnership helped, and we are working on detailed plans to go into schools on regular basis next season.

“We’d like to thank everybody who attended and helped make it a real City Stars night to remember.”

Assistant coach Scott Gough said: “To see the rink sold out was fantastic, the fans are a great credit to the club.”
