OXFORD City Stars victory against Invicta Dynamos ended in uproar with three separate fights breaking out in the final two minutes.

The hosts triumphed 5-3 in the English National League South Division 1 clash, which will be remembered for the image of the ice being littered with helmets and sticks.

The tempers flared at Oxpens with Stars already holding a 5-3 lead.

Invicta’s Adam Rehak started a fight with Josh Oliver, both players getting penalties for roughing.

With 29 seconds left, there was a scuffle between Stars’ Dax Hedges and Invicta’s Mason Webster. Both ended up with penalties, Webster getting an extra ten minutes.

As soon as the whistle blew for the next face-off the fighting started again, with many players joining in, Mike Whillock and Ben Paynter for Stars, plus Invicta’s Bailey Wootton and Harrison Lillis, landed the roughing penalties.

The remaining few seconds passed without further incident.

Stars led 1-0 at the end of the first period, Dax Hedges finding the net with assists from Hallam Wilson and Mike Whillock.

The second period belonged to Dynamos, who scored three goals in the first five minutes through Steve Osman and a brace from Wootton.

Stars were now playing catch-up, and it was a relief when three minutes later Alan Green skated unopposed to score their second goal, assisted by Jake Florey.

A fight then broke out, Wootton sitting out a roughing penalty. The Stars took advantage to equalise through Matt Jordan to make it 3-3.

The Stars regained the lead less than a minute into the third period, Dominic Hopkins slipping the puck in behind goal-minder John Dibble, assisted by Paynter and Jaroslav Cesky.

With Whillock and Green off the ice for slashing, Dynamos had a brief spell of five- on-three hockey, but could not equalise.

Instead, Stars added their fifth score with a delayed penalty goal.

Jesse Lye fell over and slid along the ice, hitting the puck into the net in the process.

The match descended into a brawl but Stars hung on for victory.
