VISITORS to Oxpens this season will find a welcome addition to the matchday experience.

A competition held over the summer to uncover Stars fans’ favourite players has yielded new names for the stands at the ice rink.

Supporters were asked to vote on their best player for the first three decades of the club’s existence, with the winners being immortalised.

Scott Gough, a veteran of more than 200 games for Stars, scooped the overall vote.

All-time top-scorer Dan Prachar, with 403 goals and 334 assists in just under 200 competitive appearances, topped the poll for the 1990s, with Dave Carr winning the 2000s vote.

Darryl Morvan, coach of Stars’ under 20s team, was awarded player of the 1980s, having joined the club in its inaugural season of 1984/85 and playing until the end of the century.

The Oxpens Road end of the rink has been renamed the Elliott End in recognition of the contribution made by the family – including Stars player Darren Elliott, Stars’ all-time record appearance-maker, as well as his father Norman, who performed a huge number of tasks for the club until his death in 2011.
