OXFORD City Stars believe their latest player signing is just purr-fect.

Star forward Alan Green is back on board ahead of their English National League Division One South campaign, which starts next month.

The Oxford-born star has scored more than 200 goals for the club and is a fans’ favourite.

And one supporter has gone to unusual lengths to show her appreciation – naming their cat Alan Green.

Owner Paul Dodd said: “When the kitten arrived with us it was five weeks old and very poorly.

“My daughter named him Alan Green after her idol.

“She’s convinced she’s going to be as good as Greeny on the ice one day.

“She’s got one of his broken sticks and shirts in her room too.”

Green was thrilled to sign up to play for head coach Simon Anderson again.

He said: “I’m so happy to be back at Oxford after the great year the team had and with all the effort going on behind the scenes it is very refreshing to see.

“And regarding the cat, well, it’s not every day a pet gets named after you!”

A delighted Anderson said: “I will be looking for Alan to lead us again in scoring and help us to again be at the top part of the standings.”

Green is not the only key player from last season to have put pen-to-paper this week.

Josh Oliver is back, joining up with brothers Nick and Joe, and he cannot wait to get back on the ice again.

He said: “ I know I can bring goals, hits and fast skating, but all I’m concerned about at the moment is working hard at training and getting myself back to that point.

“We always have a great bunch of guys, so it’s always a privilege putting the skates on each weekend, and for the late-night practices.”
