OXFORD City Stars were brought back down to earth with a bump as they suffered a 5-4 defeat at Solent Devils.

Just 24 hours after their thrilling 7-6 win over Invicta Dynamos in English National League South Division 1 they were unable to make it back-to-back wins.

But Stars’ place in the play-offs has been confirmed and they will host Streatham Redskins on Saturday, April 2, with the return leg on April 3.

On Saturday, Stars recovered from 4-1 down to beat Dynamos at Oxpens.

The visitors opened the scoring through Callum Fowler on the powerplay.

Stars hit back when Ondrej Pekarik netted.

But three quick goals in the second period saw Dynamos race to 4-1 through Jarrison Lillis, Eriks Ozollapa and Fowler.

Frustration began to grow, but Pekarik pulled a goal back, before Dax Hedges reduced the deficit to one.

And it was 4-4 at the end of the second period as Theo Bundock netted his first league goal.

Boris Ruzicka gave Stars the lead for the first time and with ten minutes to go they made it 6-4, thanks to Michael Willock.

Ben Ealey-Newman grabbed the seventh and despite Arran Strawson’s double they held on.

On Sunday, ex-Stars players Andrew Magee and Mason Wild put Devils 2-0 ahead.

Pekarik scored for Stars at the start of the second period, but Wild was on hand to tap home and make it 3-1.

Less than two minutes later, Boris Ruzicka reduced the deficit and a Pekarik double gave Stars the lead.

Solent drew level through Mitchell Murray in the third period, before Ralfs Circenis grabbed their winner.
