A nightmare spell early in the second half led to Oxford Hawks suffering a 4-1 defeat at home to Gloucester City in in the Women’s Investec Conference West.
It was a tale of two halves, as Oxford had the better of the first, going into the interval leading 1-0.
Their goal came after just five minutes from Lucy Millington’s perfectly executed short corner strike.
In the second half, the tides turned as Gloucester forced repeated turnovers.
And they equalised with a goal set up by former Hawks player Maisie Robertson and added three quick goals, despite some fine defending by Caro Harris.
Hawks were shaken by the sudden turnaround in the game, but to their credit settled and played some fine hockey in the last quarter, but the damage had been done.
