HOCKEY: Reaney's double not enough for Oxford

Catherine Reaney scored two, but it was not enough for Oxford, who lost 3-2 to East Grinstead at Headington School in Division 2 of the Women's South Clubs League.

The visitors went ahead from a short corner, but Reaney squared it up before the break.

Another East Grinstead short-corner routine saw them go 2-1 up, before Reaney deflected home her second to level the scores again.

Hayley Sawyer and Caitlin Bailey-Williams threatened, but the breakthough failed to come and East Grinstead snatched the points five minutes from time.

Oxford Hawks went ahead at Conference East leaders Surbiton before losing 4-1.

Bex Strange put them one up from a short corner, Surbiton levelling before the interval.

In an excellent second half, Surbiton took the lead with an clinical strike from ex-GB international Chloe Strong, who netted twice more to seal it.

Banbury had to settle for a 2-2 draw against second-from-bottom Henley in South Clubs League Division 2. A lapse in concentration gifted Henley the first goal, Banbury levelling through Sadie Lapper.

Henley restored their lead in the second half, but Banbury upped a gear and were awarded a penalty flick after a push on Ali Sturla.

Lapper converted, but Banbury could not find a winner.

Bicester came from behind to see off Oxford 3rd 4-2 and stay top of Trysports 3-Counties League Premier 2.

Oxford were ahead after five minutes, but Bicester levelled with a Lilla Venning tap-in and then Ella Weston made it 2-1.

Kath Crook and Venning’s second put the result beyond doubt before Oxford replied.

Kidlington defeated Witney 3rd 3-1 to remain top of Division 9.

Witney scored after ten minutes, but Ellie Desmond (2) and Shelley Hopper sealed it for Kidlington.
