HOCKEY: City pay for easing off

5:12pm Monday 7th December 2009

City of Oxford Ladies took their foot off the accelerator against Hampstead & Westminster 2nd – with devastatting consequences.

At 3-0 up and crusing in their South Clubs' League Division 3A match, they looked in no danger.

Anna Nicholson put them in front, and further goals came from Kirsty Brammer and Rachel Lammey.

But easing off proved disastrous, and Hampstead battled back to win 4-3.

Division 3A leaders Banbury experienced the opposite extreme, as they won 4-3 away to Southgate 2nd, having been 2-0 down.

Natasha Nunneley’s two individual goals brought them level, and although Southgate struck again at the start of the second half, Lara Wilkinson hit a post, and Olivia Mathews forced in the rebound.

With two minutes to go, Tamsyn Harvey struck a great winner – her first goal for Banbury in her sixth season!

Oxford Hawks 2nd earned a 2-2 draw at West Witney, who led 2-0 through goals from Anna Kirk and Lucy Reading.

Hawks came out fighting in the second half and despite goalline clearances from Katie Gatt, Hawks drew one back from an accurate short corner strike by Anna Clark.

SjoukeTolsma then snatched a leveller late on.
