HOCKEY: Hawks know it's points dropped

5:07pm Monday 7th December 2009

Oxford Hawks were pleased with their performance, but still felt it was two points dropped as they were held 1-1 by Milton Keynes.

They remain second from bottom in South League Premier Division 2.

Welcoming back Richard Fogden, to add steel to the defence, they started brightly and Nick Ferraby hit a post.

Hawks lost Andy Brown midway through the first half with an ankle injury.

They conceded a sloppy goal to Milton Keynes’ first real attack of the second half.

But Hawks levelled when a goalmouth scramble ended with Steve Collier smashing home from close range.

Tim Martin was harshly sinbinned with three minutes to go.

Banbury’s run of three good wins in Premier Division 1 ended with a 3-1 defeat at second-placed Wimbledon.

Two down at half-time, one goal coming from a disputed penalty corner, Banbury star-ted the second half well.

A great run from Richard Foreman down the left resulted in a penalty corner, and a well-worked routine enabled Adrian Simons to fire home.

But Wimbledon sealed victory with a third goal.

Two goals from Adam Jordan brought Oxford University a 2-1 win over Teddington in the same division.

Oxon’s Regional League teams had a mixed afternoon.

Oxford Hawks 2nd won 5-1 against bottom club Newbury & Thatcham, but Wallingford crashed 7-0 at runaway leaders PHC Chiswick.

Goals from Dan Smyth and Andy Wynd were not enough for Rover Oxford, who lost 3-2 at home to Slough.

Rover Oxford 2nd considered themselves unlucky to go down 3-0 at second-placed Tring in Regional 2, as Duncan Buckmaster performed well in defence, with strong support from keeper Paul Hewitson.

City of Oxford slipped to third in Division 1 after a surprising 3-1 defeat at struggling Slough 2nd.

Charlie de Burgh put them one up during a strong first-half display, but City then found themselves 2-1 down to two counter-attacking goals.

A scuffed short corner strike then gave Slough a third.

Witney consolidated their position at the top of Division 2 with a 5-1 victory over Phoenix & Ranelagh.

A brace for Tom Allison was complemented by strikes from Richard Demczak, Tim Hardy and Ben Wells.
