SAMANTHA Round claimed her third Oxfordshire County ladies Championship after a thrilling play-off against Frilford Heath's Abi Laker in the final at Chipping Norton.

Round, the former Tadmarton Heath member, who now plays out of Cotswold Hills, previously won the title in 2006 and 2008.

After nine holes of the final, Round was three up on Laker, who fought back to win the next three holes with the help of two birdies.

The 17th and 18th were halved with birdies, with a stunning chip-in from Laker on the 18th matching Round’s close approach and putt.

On the first extra hole, with Laker on the green in regulation, Round’s amazing chip and run shot to four feet and the putt gave her the title.

In the semi-finals Round knocked out defending champion Kath O’Connor (Tadmarton Heath), while Laker defeated Cara Gainer (Frilford Heath).

Laker, who plays off two, had topped qualifying rounds for the Championship, taking the silver medal with a 36-hole total of 141, including a brilLiant second round of 66.

Gainer, playing off seven, won the handicap prize with a nett 134.

Prizes were also awarded for the best AM gross score won by Annie Gowing (handicap six) from Frilford with 73 and best AM nett score taken by Burford’s Martine Summers, who plays off nine with 75.
