MARC Andrews made it two in a row when he defied rough weather to win the North Oxford Club Championship.

Andrews, who plays off two, had rounds of 70 and 76 for a 12-over par total of 146 to take his title by one shot from Paul Jones.

“I didn't know it at the time, but I needed to get it up and down at the last to win,” said Andrews.

“I managed to chip to two feet and so had an easy putt.”

It was his first round of 70, which gave him a three-stroke lead that won it for the 24-year-old, who struggled like most others in the blustery and wet conditions.

However, these did not prevent Stuart Newstead from having a hole in one at the 198-yard fourth with a five wood during the second round.

Meanwhile, Pauline Sydenham’s domination of top honours at North Oxford continued when she won her eighth ladies championship – and fourth in a row.

But it was a close shave as she triumphed by just a single shot from Trish Traynor after rounds of 87 and 93.

Jill Northover won the Handicap Championship with contrasting nett rounds of 66 and 83!

The runners-up were the host club team of Simon Thomas, Tim Huddart, Pete Turner and pro Richard Jefferies.

l BURFORD suffered a shock 2-1 defeat by newcomers Chiltern Forest in the first round of the Shaw Gibbs Oxfordshire Foursomes League Knockout.

The Division 1 side’s only win came from Simon Hopkins and Breatt Carter in the second match.

l PAUL Simpson, the West Berks professional who lives in Witney, was a double winner at the Chipping Norton Pro-Am tournament.

The former Burford player won the individual event with a two-under-par 68 in tricky conditions, finishing a shot clear of East Berks' pro Guy Woodman.

Former Chipping Norton professional and director of golf, Neil Rowlands, just missed out on a top-three place, following his round of 71.

Simpson also landed the team prize, with three other West Berks members, finishing two shots clear of the field.
