OLLY Huggins has become the first holder of both the Morland Cup and John Fisher Cup, played over the three courses at Frilford Heath.

The opening two rounds of these combined championships are played on the Blue and Green Courses, with the top 60 players making the cut to play the final round on the Red.

In the Morland Cup, which is played off scratch, the 17-year-old student at Bristol Academy of Sport, had rounds of 70 (one-over-par on the Green course), 67 (five-under-par on the Blue) and one-under-par 71 on the Red Course for a total of 208.

Defending champion Jake Dines was runner-up on 214 (69, 70, 75), with Gregor McKenzie third on 219 (73, 71, 75).

In the John Fisher Cup handicap competition, scra-tch player Huggins won with 208.

He was followed by Gregor McKenzie (three) on 210 and Dines (scratch) on 214.

No sooner had club captain John Gowing presented Huggins with his prizes, the youngster was being ushered into his parents’ car to travel to Hunstanton to participate in the English Boys Under 18 Open Amateur Strokeplay for the Carris Trophy.

Ian Bound won the Oxford City Club Championship after a play-off with Richard Ferguson. Both shot 159 for the two rounds.
